Bender Signs started in New Bern and never really left. The shop moved 20 minutes down US-17 to Pollocksville, and the install trucks have been driving back every week since. Some of the town’s most photographed signs came off our fabrication floor: the Bruin Theater marquee, the airport’s ewn monument, Riverside Automotive’s entrance. When we wrote up our five favorite signs in New Bern, the hard part was leaving ours out; we couldn’t.
For a New Bern business the practical questions are permits and turnaround. Permits: the city requires a sign permit and a building permit, and anything in the historic district needs Historic Preservation Commission approval first. That’s paperwork we prepare and file as part of every quoted job, because we’ve done it many times. Turnaround: a survey visit is a same-week matter; you are not waiting on a crew from Raleigh.
